Frequently Asked Questions
Attending Hard Reboot
The best way to get an invitation is to ask around. You probably know at least one person who has already received an invitation for Hard Reboot, and they will have a number of invitations they can give out.
If you can’t find an invitation in your community then you may request one. [Click here to request an invitation]
Follow Hard Reboot on Facebook and Twitter to know when invitations are being released.
Yes, this event is great for families who are into maker culture.
- There is a family camping area away from the nosiest part of camp night-life.
- There are youth focused workshops and activities.
- Few events will offer youth the experience and inspiration as found at Hard Reboot.
Be aware:
- All attendees under 13 must be with an adult at all times.
- There will be dangerous things and activities, and we’ll do our best to mark them, however if you bring children then you are fully responsible for keeping them safe.
- This event is inclusive. If you’re not comfortable with your children being around others with views and lifestyles different than yours then this event may not be for them, or you.
Yes, this event is completely run by volunteers and so your help would be most welcomed.

No, all passes are sold through the website and will be long gone before the event. Get your passes now.
No, passes cannot not be refunded, with the only exception being if the event is cancelled, which is highly unlikely.
You may however sell your passes to someone who wasn’t as lucky to have gotten one before they sold out. Closer to the event we will try to create a way for people to post passes they want to sell.
Camping passes will sell out. However, we are releasing camping passes in batches, so there may be more available later. A sales event schedule is posted on the Attend page. Registered members can also check available passes when logged-in.
Mostly not. Everyone at Hard Reboot pays for their entry passes, including organizers and crew.
If paying full price is too much of a financial burden then you may apply for a subsidized pass.
They’re not. Check out the price of other camping festivals and you’ll realize quickly we’re not charging as much as we probably should.
Prices are set based on the total cost of the event production and divided by the total available tickets plus a buffer to ensure unexpected costs are covered and that we remain sustainable.
If you cannot afford full price then you may apply for a subsidized entry pass.
Bringing Stuff to Hard Reboot
Animals are not permitted at Hard Reboot as it would be too dangerous for them. Leave them at home please. Working dogs are allowed, however dangers do exist and so we recommend against it. It’s simply the nature of the event.
Yes, you are permitted to bring your own alcohol.
There will also be a bar on-site serving quality beer, cider, and wine from local micro-breweries and wineries. Prices will be well below typical camping festival prices so you may want to lighten your load and let the bar supply your social needs. Any profits from the bar directly benefit the event and help ensure it continues year over year.
Keep in mind that alcohol may not be provided to, or consumed by, anyone under the age of 19. Also remember to pace yourself as there’s so much to do that you won’t want to miss out on.
Furthermore, overconsumption of alcohol is not an excuse for poor behaviour so fully expect to be booted from camp permanently if your poor judgement leads to breaking the Code of Conduct.
Yes, so long as any UAV pilot is at all times in full compliance with all Transport Canada and British Columbia rules and regulations around UAV use.

Yes, however you need to let us know your intent before April 15, 2020 as we’ll need to find a safe place for you to setup and operate. Additionally, all flame effects will need to be inspected and approved by our safety team before they may be used.
If you follow the Burning Man guidelines for flame effects then your fiery device will surely pass our inspection.
You are responsible for bringing proper fire extinguishers, fuel, and for ensuring safety at all times.
Maybe. All large scale projects need to be approved prior to arrival. Click the link below and let us know what you want to bring so that we know what to expect and can prepare for it.

Getting to Hard Reboot
The nearest airport for commercial airlines is Calgary International (YYC). There will likely be shuttle service directly from this airport to Hard Reboot, however this has not yet been planned and so no information is currently available. Let us know if you’ll be flying in and we’ll do our best to help you get to the event.
Hard Reboot camp is located on the shore of Lake Windermere in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, approximately three hours from Calgary. Nine hours drive from Vancouver. Nineteen hours drive from San Francisco. 😉
Help Make Hard Reboot Possible
Like any conference not everyone who wants to attend can afford to, or at least not without some help. We’re looking for partners to help us subsidize entry passes.
Hard Reboot is completely volunteer run. We’re always looking for people passionate about the maker movement to join the crew. While it’s a lot of work running an event, it’s also the most rewarding thing many of us get to do.
Workshops can always use support and the right workshop, or series of workshops, might just tie in well with your brand.
Film Screenings are an intelligent and entertaining way of engaging the audience. We could use help with the acquiring the Audio/Visual equipment to make this possible.
All events produce waste, but Hard Reboot is committed to divert 85%+ event waste from ending up in the landfill. This means careful waste collection and separation. Green initiatives like this cost more, but are worth it for everyone. We could use a partner who agrees that this practice should be part of all such events.
It doesn’t make sense for everyone attending Hard Reboot to drive to the event. While we are encouraging people to car pool we would also like to coordinate shuttle busses from the closest bus station, and from Calgary. We could use help in finding a good solution for this.
We are looking to partner with British Columbia / Columbia Valley breweries and wineries who want to share their passion for making.
Theme Camps
A theme camp is when a person or group self-organizes an area of the campground to be uniquely theirs and the envy of everyone else. Often a theme camp will include communal areas such as large tents or canopies, seating, and sometimes shared cooking.
Theme camps will often decorate to differentiate it from all the other tents around. Lights, music, sculpture, activities, workshops, and the such are popular ways of doing this.
Theme camps can be created by anyone or any group. A theme camp sets it’s own rules for who can join and what the camp will look like. It’s also a great way of meeting others at the camp.
Yes, you are encouraged to do this and we will even help you promote your workshop times to the whole camp.
You may do whatever you think other campers would be interested in learning.
You may charge a fee for your workshop if you like, so long as you clearly note this everywhere the workshop is posted/advertised.
Yes, if two conditions are met.
First condition, you have officially applied to host a theme camp, and your theme camp application was approved. <theme camp application link>
Second condition, everyone on your team arriving early has purchased an early arrival ticket. <purchase early arrival ticket here>
No, at least not a bar where you are charging anything. If you simply theme your area like a bar but you are freely giving away alcohol then yes, you may.
If you are going to do this then please use good judgement and ensure the safety of all who visit your bar.
To be extra clear, you may not under any circumstances charge others by any means for any alcohol you provide them. It’s not a good use of your time or ours to try and circumnavigate this rule, no matter how clever. You are also responsible to check the age of everyone you are serving. Legal drinking age is 19.
